Forest Park Stucco's Seven Step Formula for Long Lasting Beauty and Durability

  1. Remove all loose, bulging stucco.  Bulging is caused by moisture which seeps through the cracks.  Eventually it freezes and expands and soon small cracks give way to large bulges.

  2. Replace any cracked or rotten wood lathe.  Wood lathe is beneath the base coat of most stucco homes.  As moisture seeps in, the wood lathe becomes water logged and may split.

  3. Reinforce all repair areas with galvanized wire.  After restoring a solid foundation, galvanized wire is nailed over the surface of the wood lathe so patches remain secure.  ( Galvanized wire won't rust and ensures adhesion of the base coat.)

  4. Base coat with fiber - reinforced Portland Cement.  The next step is to apply the base coat which consists of plastering all repair areas with Portland Cement.  Adding glass fibers to the Portland Cement helps prevent cracking, ( As recommended by the Portland Cement Association.)

  5. Texture all repair areas to match existing stucco finish.  After step 4 has been completed, the result is a smooth flat area.  It is important that these areas be expertly textured to match the existing stucco design so patches will be less visible after the finishing coat is applied.  This step is time consuming and costly but is necessary to achieve the desired results.

  6. Pressure wash all stucco areas.  Once all the repairs have been completed, and the walls are watertight, we pressure-wash the entire stucco surface before applying the finish.  This step removes any remaining loose flaking paint, dirt, grime, etc..

  7. Apply the finish coat. Today there are many exterior coatings available for stucco.  (Over 470 colors to  choose from.)  Forest Park Stucco offers you a choice of these as well as traditional Portland Cement stucco recoating.  We will be happy to help you decide which method is better for your home.

How crucial is proper preparation?

All areas which need patching must be both properly prepared and textured or the stucco will have an unattractive, irregular appearance, as these examples show.

The results speak for themselves.
